Thanks to this website, we have received e-mails from other groups doing similar work. We are now in contact with Single Parent groups in Uganda, South Africa and Nigeria.

We are trying to establish another FaceBook group: Single Parents Africa, where individuals and organisations can share news, views and information.

We are extremely excited to announce a forthcoming social enterprise project supported by the US Embassy's Self-Help Fund.

We will be working with our single parent networks to produce papier-mâché piggy banks and make-up cases which will be available for general sale in Kigali, and through our shop in Nyabugogo.

A huge 'thank you' to our international volunteer, Vincent Caccetta, for helping to teach handcrafts, and to the Tabara Committee for all of their hard work.  Keep an eye out for further updates, or join our FaceBook group to receive our newsletter.

Tabara has managed to secure two laptop computers and a digital camera thanks to Vikki & Dai O'Brien of Bristol, UK. We are appealing to anyone who is travelling from the UK to Rwanda to make a little extra room in their luggage so that we can get the items out there as soon as possible.

One year on and the Tabara shop has had to stop selling clothes partly due to the high level of border tax on imports from Uganda and partly due to the lack of interest in second-hand clothes. The business has shifted to food and the shop is sub-let so that three single parents are now earning their living from selling food on the stall. We are currently looking at projects such as mushroom growing to involve more parents in producing items to sell.

We have just opened a market stall in Nyabagogo, just behind SP petrol station, two minutes walk from Nyabagogo bus park.

We welcome all donations of second hand clothes, shoes and bags. The money from these sales goes to helping single parent families into employment, education and health care.

When you see Down Town Bar & Resto, the Boucherie and Kitchen Ware Shop, go through the door on the far right into the market. We are the first stall on your left, just inside the entrance.

Or call Jasmine (078362 2212) and arrange to drop off close to the American Embassy in Kacyiru.

    Thank you for your support!

We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Cheltenham Borough Council in the UK and the students of Westwood Collegiate in Canada for their donations which have allowed us to pay basic medical insurance for around 75 adults and 150 children this year.
